What is it about?

FLS Battlebots, together with Maker Faire, has prepared a combat robot tournament for you, in which original robotic constructions will be presented in a special arena, showing what can be created with the help of modern technologies, 3D printing, electronics, and skilled hands. The robots will face off in dynamic and often noisy battles full of surprises, during which it will never be clear in advance who will be the winner. The competition consists of building your own remote-controlled machines, which compete in the arena in one-on-one battles, with the goal of pushing your opponent out of the arena or simply knocking them out of commission. If you come as a spectator, you can look forward not only to the battles themselves, but also to the opportunity to see the robots up close, watch them being repaired between matches, have their creators explain how the robots work, and even try controlling a robot yourself. An unforgettable experience awaits you, where you can cheer on your favorites, be inspired, and get to know the world of combat robots up close.

Registration

Registration takes place within teams. Each team can have up to 5 members and 5 robots. The number of robots is independent of the number of team members or drivers. Robots from the same team cannot compete against each other (this rule does not have to be followed if there are only a small number of registered robots).
Would you like to participate in a combat tournament, but don’t know how to build a robot? Sign up for our workshop, which will also take place during the festival and the tournament itself. More information can be found below.

Rules

The tournament will only be held in the Antweight weight category. You can find a list of all the rules for this weight category by clicking the button below.

Where will it take place?

For the first time in history, battles will take place in the FLS Battlebots arena. The arena is made of aluminum profiles and 6 mm thick polycarbonate panels. The two shorter sides feature opening doors with two steel latches. The arena measures 1.2 x 1 m and the floor is made of polycarbonate. On one side of the arena, there is a 20 x 20 cm hole. The hole can be covered with panels on all sides; covering the hole is up to the organizers and can be changed during the tournament. There is a box around the hole at the bottom into which the robots can fall. These robots can be removed through a small door on the wall of the box. The arena will include a timer for counting down the time and lighting, but it is not guaranteed that this will be available at this tournament.

The schedule is only indicative and may change depending on the number of robots registered.

Arrival at the festival and delivery of items to the tournament venue are expected in the morning. Details will be specified by the Maker Faire organizers approximately one week before the festival. Upon arrival, you must report to the organizer and undergo a technical inspection during the tent period, where the robot must comply with the following:

  • weight – 150 g (or 225 or 300 g)
  • dimensions – must fit into a cube measuring 15 cm x 15 cm x unlimited
  • failsafe – weapon and drive shutdown after loss of control signal
  • color coding of the off position on slide switches (a visible dot at the off position is sufficient)
  • weapon safety (in the case of rotating or sharp weapons)

Once the robot has passed the technical inspection, it is eligible to participate in the tournament. Even after the inspection, it is possible to make adjustments to the robot, but the same requirements must still be met. The organizer may perform an inspection at any time and may disqualify the robot if the requirements are not met. Before the first round, the remaining time can be used, for example, to get to know other builders, inspect competing robots, or help with organizational matters. This is followed by individual rounds. Matches are paired using the Swiss system, meaning that the highest-ranked robots compete against each other. However, it is not possible to face the same robot twice (except in the final matches and in cases where there are more rounds than possible pairing combinations). The matches are always followed by a break to recharge batteries or make repairs and improvements. During the breaks, it is also possible to explore the festival. The winner is decided based on points. If some robots have the same number of points and it is not possible to decide the medal positions, one or more final matches will be played. In the event of a tie between the top 3 robots, the robots will compete against each other at the same time.
